The '172 patent covers the memory tube decoding making use of the "all-of-four" gating structure for individual memory elements. '172 describes the internal connection topology of the selection grid electrodes to both implement partial decoding of the selection address, but also to minimize the number of electrical connections required to penetrate the glass envelope.
